Detoxification aka Detox, means a process through which we cleanse out negative or toxic elements out of the body. These toxic elements are those elements which do reside in the body but either they harm/damage the body or aren’t of any use in it. They go inside, through many ways, mostly ‘eating unhealthy’ is the biggest source of toxic gathering in the body.
Word toxic means, ‘poisonous’. Simply, anything which is not needed in the body and still lying there is also toxin. These toxins could be in numerous amount, depending upon our lifestyle, food-habits, thoughts, emotions, stress level, body type, strength, environmental issues ,i.e, pollution etc. and so on.
Our body which is more like a big-big city, do have thousands of different colonies inside it. These colonies are of those elements who are making our body, a body. They work inside and creates an environment, which in an unconscious way of living and state of mind, a person thinks of his own body talk. These toxins could be in a form of bacteria, fungus, parasites, unnatural elements etc.
These toxins do create a sustainable environment for themselves and usually if not taken care well in time, start damaging the body in various form of disease, cancer etc. Nowadays, in cities, it is very hard to find a person who is not dying because of any illness or sickness or disease of body. It is rare to see somebody leaving the body in a very healthy state. Dying in a healthy state is not a very common concept in social life but among the yogis, it is a very much common phenomenon.
Yogis of India, knew this information since thousands of years that to have a healthy body, it needed to be cleansed on every periodical level, so that it can be retained for a longer time without disturbance. One of the way of cleansing the body, is ‘Shankh-Prakchalana’.
‘Shankh’ in english is called ‘coanch shell’ and prakshalana means, ‘washing, rinsing’. Yogic words or languages are usually coded in nature. Their literal meaning is not always their true meaning. So here, Shankh doesn’t mean coanch shell but our elementary canal. Right from the mouth till anus. As conch shell also in a way replicates the same, hence word ‘Shankh’ is used. Washing this elementary system from inside is called shankh-prakshalana.
In this process, many things needed to be understood and taken care. A well done process, gives immense beautiful results later on.
As per AkaalYog experiences and understanding, once the Shankh-Prakshalana is done, body is again toxin-free, strong and ready for its survival for the next 6 months. It works on the root level of hundreds of dis-ease or their future possibilities, as it cleanses a whole of those waste/toxic/acidic elements from the walls of intestines, which do cause problems for the body. Acidity, gas trouble, indigestion, constipation gone forever. It rejuvenates brain cells and helps in passing fresh oxygen in all parts of the body. A sense of easiness, lightness and happiness do comes from within. Emotional values are high and one feels more humane in nature.
During our Yogic Detoxification retreats, we simply cleanse the intestines with lukewarm water mixed with lemon juice and rock salt. It’s a 2-3 days process. Those who have strong constipation issues, it can go for 3 days.
While undergoing the process, early in the morning, after waking up, person need to drink minimum 2 glass of water with lemon & salt. After which, five (5) different types of physical exercises are performed. These exercises are meant to give water a movement inside the intestines, which also helps in releasing the dirt/toxic stuff out of the internal layer of intestines. During the process, bowel movement happens and one releases toxic waste through usual course of lavation. As whole cleansing is not possible with just 2 or 4 glasses in one day only, hence, it is done in total three days.
First Day : 2-4 glass water
Second Day: 4-8 glass water
Third Day: 5-8 liter water
Third day which is also the final day of process, water is consumed in the same way, as was done in previous 2 days but only change here would be of its closing. Person shall continuing drinking and exercising till the whole intestines are not cleaned properly. To understand, whether intestines are properly cleansed or not, two conditions are to be fulfilled. (a) at the last stage, same water as we drink comes out. No yellowness or other similar color is mixed with coming water (b) no solid form of waste remains inside.
After finishing the process:
One should take bath in hot water. Cold water is not good totally restricted. Body should be saved from cold breeze and wrapped immediately after bath. One should rest for forty minutes and then should eat either ‘Khichdi’ or simple white rice. Khichdi is a mixture of moong dal and rice, boiled/cooked together. In this khichdi, no other element except salt shall be mixed.
While eating, a lots of ghee (clarified butter) should be put in inside the Khichdi, so that it can nourish the intestines from within and smoothen & strengthen them. No pickles, vinegar or other oily, spices should be used with this in greed of enhancing the taste.
It is important to do rest after finishing the process for minimum 36 hours. Rest doesn’t mean only sleeping but an easy state of living on the bed. Over-talking, mobile, TV, laptop should be avoided. Any hard working activity including long walk, should be avoided. Exertion in any form should be avoided atleast for the first day.
Next meals of the same and next day, should be of Khichdi only. Same way as advised above.
Best time of doing
Usually in India, best time for this process is around March-April and October-November. Both are weather transitory periods. Body should be made ready for the changing climate. In other countries also, it should be done according to weather change.
